ESRP, RCAST, The University of Tokyo has hosted the 1st “Early Career Researchers Workshop on Economic Statecraft and International Security” on March 29.
This workshop welcomed early career researchers who study issues at the intersection of international political economy and international security. It is part of an ongoing series of small events designed to provide a platform for presenting research findings, soliciting feedback on working papers, dissertation chapters, or other works in progress, and beginning to foster a community among the growing number of junior international relations scholars in Japan doing research on these issues.
The workshop featured two panels. For each panel, three speakers were given up to 15 minutes each to present their research and the specific issues they wish for feedback on, followed by approximately 30 minutes of open Q&A with the audience.

Panel Two:
We had the attendance of a good mix of graduate students and early-mid career researchers. In addition to learning about the research others are currently engaged in, the event served as an opportunity for casual networking and developing a small community of IR researchers based in different institutions in Japan who are interested in the nexus of economic interdependence and international security.
ESRP-affiliated Young Leaders also took part in the discussions.
