A comment by Akira Igata, Director of ESRP, Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, The University of Tokyo, quoted in The Japan Times in an article (09/03/2023). He pointed out that the lack of a security clearance system is one of the main reasons why many advanced countries find it challenging to share sensitive information with Japan. He further argued that privacy concerns related to the introduction of such a system may not be an issue, given that obtaining clearance would be a matter of individual choice.
