A comment by Akira Igata, Director of ESRP, Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, The University of Tokyo, was quoted in the Sankei Shimbun on an article (19/01/2023). Citing information that parts of the surveillance cameras used for human rights abuses in China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region are made by Japanese companies, he argued that legal regulations on technologies involved in human rights violations are essential to change corporate behavior.
