A comment by Akira Igata, Director of ESRP, Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, The University of Tokyo, was published in the Asahi Shimbun (04/08/2023). In response to U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, he pointed out that while China does not desire war, it is likely to employ non-military measures such as economic coercion to demonstrate that its criticisms are not merely lip service. He also emphasized that Japan should actively pursue value-based diplomacy.
