In response to Japan ranking in Group 4 in a country-based ranking announced earlier this month by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), which is based on the number of influential papers in cutting-edge technology, he highlighted the need to reconsider the once-held notion of Japan as a ‘scientific superpower.’
