Akira Igata, Director of ESRP, Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, The University of Tokyo, spoke at a webinar titled ‘The Implications of Japan’s New Economic Security Law,’ hosted by the Information Technology & Innovation Foundation (ITIF) (11/05/2023). As current challenges, he cited the fact that many Japanese universities are engaged in collaborative research with Chinese companies, given China’s civil-military fusion policy.

The Implications of Japan’s New Economic Security Law
In recent years, Japan adopted legislation to develop and implement an “economic security strategy” that includes a significant reorganization of government (the creation of a minister for economic security) and the adoption of new policies to accomplish this task.
