Akira Igata is a Project Lecturer at the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, The University of Tokyo.
He is also an Adjunct Senior Fellow at the Indo-Pacific Security Program at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), an Adjunct Senior Fellow at Pacific Forum (PF), a Senior Fellow at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), a Senior Fellow at the Prague Security Studies Institute (PSSI), and a Non-Executive Director at the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC). He is also a Director of the Japan Association for Cellular Agriculture (JACA), where he focuses on food security issues. He advises the Japanese parliament, bureaucracy, and the private sector in various capacities.
His expertise is on Economic Security, Human Rights diplomacy, Counter-disinformation / influence operations, International Politics in the Indo-Pacific, and advanced technologies and food security (cellular agriculture).
