Akira Igata, Director of ESRP, The Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, University of Tokyo, gave a talk titled “Next Agenda for Japan’s Economic Security After the 2024 Elections” at the Institute of Contemporary Asian Studies at Temple University Japan (Nov.7, 2024).

He discussed the implications of the results of Japan’s late October general election and the U.S. presidential election in early November for Japan’s economic security policies, including the Economic Security Promotion Act (ESPA), the Security Clearance law, and the Active Cyber Defense law. Participants also discussed how the results of the U.S. and Japanese elections could change the economic and security policy priorities of Japan, the U.S., Japan-U.S. relations, and the international community.
