The Economic Security Research Program (ESRP at RCAST, The University of Tokyo), Pacific Forum, and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) co-hosted a workshop entitled “Transforming AI Cooperation: Policy, Environment, and Capability Gaps” (7,8/11/2023).

The roundtable discussion convened experts and practitioners to examine the prospects of the Trilateral Security Dialogue (TSD) among the US, Japan, and Australia against the backdrop of rapid digital transformation driven by Generative AI in economics and security.
Experts evaluated critical factors that facilitate and hinder AI cooperation among the three allies from the perspective of cybersecurity, interoperability, ethics, and economic security.
Furthermore, the workshop also discussed the continuing indispensability of the TSD as a practical vehicle for Canberra, Tokyo, and Washington D.C.
While capability gaps persist, the strong bilateral cooperation between each country forms the building blocks to address friction and realize concrete outcomes.
