A comment from Athena Tong, Visiting Researcher, Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, The University of Tokyo, was featured in Reuters and Newsweek Japan (03/11/2023).
The comment is in regard to a Hong Kong student, who during her studies in Japan, posted support for Hong Kong’s independence on social media and was subsequently sentenced to two months in jail in Hong Kong. Tong stated that this case “exemplifies the extent to which the government represses freedom of speech on a global scale.”
