ESRP Director Akira Igata‘s comments were published in the Joongang Ilbo (26/03/2024).
Mr. Igata attended the 1st Semiconductor Supply Chain Restructuring and Economic security international forum held in Taiwan, where political and security experts, engineers, and policy makers from Japan, Taiwan, and Korea discussed the possibility of semiconductor industry cooperation in the rapidly changing external environment. Considering the ongoing semiconductor cooperation between Japan and Taiwan in the face of China’s increasingly restrictive semiconductor regulations, the Korean side proposed cooperation between Korea, Taiwan, and Japan, and raised the need for joint research at a time when semiconductors are reaching their technological and physical limits.
In response to these comments, Igata pointed out the importance of dialogue not only in the governmental but also in the private sphere to find a point of agreement among the strategic interests of the three countries.
