Taiwan and Japan have a close relationship in the semiconductor industry, and the Japanese government has supported investment in Taiwan’s TSMC Kumamoto plant “JASM”, with plans for a second plant underway. There are also the current issues of the microscopic processes in semiconductor manufacturing, the risk of natural disasters, and the fact that Japanese semiconductor companies are geographically scattered and thus they cannot achieve the same concentration effect as those in South Korea and Taiwan. Among other issues, he pointed out that human resource development has been disrupted in the first place, and the gap between the funds being invested and the human resources that can be utilized is very large.
